Lithium-Ion batteries have become a part of every household and we find them in everything from cell phones to electric cars. The high energy density and rechargeable properties make them perfect for most modern-day appliances. The technology is constantly evolving and with it, we have access to a large variety of Lithium-Ion batteries. Here are the most commonly seen types of Li-On batteries:


Lithium-Cobalt Oxide: This is the most commonly used type of Li-On battery and they are mostly seen in cameras, cell phones, and laptops. The low discharge rates and high energy density make them ideal for day to day usage. Due to cobalt being fairly expensive, Lithium-Cobalt Oxide batteries are not commonly seen in large appliances.  


Lithium-Titanate: The biggest advantage of using Lithium-Titanate batteries is the low operating temperatures. You can use the batteries at sub-zero temperatures with no issues making them ideal for intense applications. The technology has been used in electronic cars with the Mitsubishi i-Miev being one of the most popular examples.


Lithium-Iron Phosphate: It is one of the safest forms of Li-On batteries thanks to its impossibly low odds of being damaged by fire or overheating. It is ideal for medical equipment and power tools due to the added safety it offers. The batteries are also among the longest lasting when it comes to Li-ion batteries.


Lithium-Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide: Long life and safety mechanisms make Lithium-Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide batteries ideal for electronic bikes and electric power trains. They can operate under harsh usage conditions and are less prone to overheating compared to other battery types.
