In today’s world thinking to run an electronic device without battery is next to impossible. Today most of our daily activities are handled by electronic gadgets that require a battery to run them. So, directly and indirectly, the battery has become indispensable in our life. These batteries come in various sizes and shapes that have specific functions and certain lengths of power supply.
Before diving into to point out the difference between AA and AAA batteries let’s take a quick look at their features.
AA Batteries
These batteries are also called double-A batteries or Mignon which is French for ‘dainty’. These batteries are the standard-sized single cell or dry cell batteries. They are also known as dry cells because they have a balanced amount of moisture to allow current to pass through. These batteries produce near about 1.5 volts of electricity. They are mainly cylindrical in shape. These batteries are mainly used for bigger toys and portable equipment.
AAA Batteries
These are mainly known as triple-A batteries. They provide the same voltage as AA lithium batteries which are 1.5 volts of electricity. Like AA batteries these batteries also come in cylindrical shape but are smaller in terms of length and diameter. These batteries are mostly used for compact, portable devices such as alarm clocks and TV remote controls. Another striking feature of these batteries is that nowadays many electronic gadgets are designed to be smaller and more efficient, those previously used to function with AA batteries now require AAA batteries.
However, in spite of certain similarities, there are a few dissimilarities which we will be discussing in our article.
Difference between AA and AAA batteries
The first question is what is the primary difference between AAA and AA batteries?
The difference between these two batteries mainly lies in their size, usage and endurance in power supply. AA batteries that are used in bigger toys and equipment are comparatively wider and longer than AAA batteries. Since they are huge in size unlike AAA batteries they battle for a longer time in terms of a power supply when matched up to AAA batteries.
In addition to this, AAA batteries carry a smaller amount of material compared to the AA batteries. Due to the difference in size, an AAA battery holds a much smaller overall amount of material than the AA battery. This means that the larger the appliance you are currently using, the larger the battery you are going to need.
Another key area of dissimilarity between these two types of batteries lies within the manner in which they are used by the users. Triple-A battery is designed to be used in smaller items that do not require much power that is typically portable. This means that remote control cannot be run without powering it with AAA batteries.
On the other hand, a double-A battery tends to be used in more high powered items that need a huge amount of current. Hence it can be said that these batteries are designed for using higher power items such as electric flashlights and battery-powered toys for children.
